introductions

So.  It's time we get acquainted.  How will this happen?  I will anticipate your every question and then provide you with a tell-all, spillin'-my-guts-out -type of answer.

1. My name is Kate.  
2. I'm a junior at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.  I'm majoring in Biochemistry and Latin American Studies.  
3. I came here from central Wisconsin, from whence I hail.  
4. Why, that's easy!  The Golden Girls. 
5. Excellent follow-up question.  I'm a Dorothy/Sophia.
6. If you must know, I hope to live in a shack by the sea and fill said shack with all things kitschy and good.  I will do something good for my fellow man and see the world.   I will learn to pick a banjo and will scrupulously monitor my daily intake of dietary fiber.  My companion through thick and thin will be a loveable mutt named Scruff McGruff.  
7. Oh, you meant more short-term.  After graduation, I think I want to apply to the Peace Corps.  And then maybe do something related to medicine/public health.

9. Excuse me?!  That's a little personal.  Who do you think you are?  Oprah?  Barbara freakin' Walters?   Well, NEWS FLASH...you're not.
10. That's more like it.  For a couple of reasons, really.  First, I thought it would be a good way to share my thoughts with the world.  Second, I'll be traveling in a few short weeks and my thoughts might be substantially more interesting than usual.  
11. Jeez, THAT came out of left field.  NOT!  I'll be traveling first to Quito, Ecuador to volunteer with La Fundacion de Abuelitos y Abuelitas de la Calle (FABC), a project funded through the Global Citizens Grant and administered by Bowdoin's McKeen Center for the Common Good.   More on FABC later.  I'll be in Quito until late February and then move on to Valparaiso, Chile, where I'll be enrolling as a student at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso (PUCV) through Middlebury's Schools Abroad program.  Schwew!  Links galore!  Anyways, I'll be Chil(e)ing in Valpo until mid-July, at which point I'll hightail it back to Maine to get an honors project rolling.  I'll be in Latin America for more than six months!  And MAN-OH-MAN am I excited!
